Agriculture Canada Research StationThe University of Manitoba campus is home to the Cereal Research Centre of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. It conducts research at Winnipeg and at Morden, Manitoba. The lead site of the Cereal Research Centre at Winnipeg develops superior wheat and oat cultivars for the Canadian prairies. At Winnipeg researchers also develop improved methods to maintain the quality and safety of stored grain and grain products, monitor and study potential insect pests of stored cereals and oilseeds, and provide screening for regional disease resistance an d quality to cereal development programs for the prairies. At Morden researchers develop improved cultivars and better production and protection practices for the prairie region for flax and field peas. Researchers also develop landscape plants for the prairies and maintain a Plant Gene Resource Bank of germplasm of alternative crops and winter-hardy woody ornamentals.
