Tier Building

Tier Building

Named after the former dean of Arts, William Tier, this building opened in 1932 and has been the location of social science and humanities teaching and research ever since; the Faculty of Social Work is housed on the top floor. In 1998, the University 1 Student Help Centre opened on the main floor.

Designed by Arthur A. Stoughton, once head of Architecture, the rough limestone exterior was a radical change from the red brick of the original campus buildings.
