Athletics and Recreation

In the 2012 season, 102 University of Manitoba student-athletes maintained a 3.5 grade point average or better in their field of study, earning the prestigious honour of being named Academic All-Canadians.

Healthy minds require healthy bodies. With some of the best sport and recreation facilities in the country, the U of M takes a holistic approach and makes the university experience vibrant, challenging and fun for all students.

  • Active living facilities include the Frank Kennedy Centre, the Max Bell Centre, University Stadium, the Investors Group Athletic Centre and (at the Bannatyne Campus) the Joe Doupe Recreation Centre.
  • Recreation Services on both campuses touch 43 per cent of university students, faculty and staff and reach the community at large through recreation, fitness, intramural and sport programs.
  • Bison Sports is among the elite interuniversity athletic programs in Canada. Sixteen Bison teams compete in nine sports: basketball, cross country, football, golf, hockey, soccer, swimming, track and field, and volleyball.

Each year, more than 7,800 students and 1,000 staff and community members use the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management’s recreational facilities at the University of Manitoba.
