Our Alumni

2012 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient Dr. Gerry Price, PEng, FCAE, Chairman and CEO, the Price Group of Companies.

Our alumni knew that from here, they could go anywhere. Today we have more than 129,000 University of Manitoba alumni across Canada and around the world. In 2012 they continued to lead and gain accolades at home and internationally.

  • A U of M alumnus was named Ambassador to the Republic of Korea and another was selected to lead NATO’s military efforts in Libya.
  • An alumnus was appointed president of the Banff Centre, joining a growing number of U of M grads at the helm of major arts facilities.
  • A Faculty of Medicine alumnus was inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, becoming the seventh U of M scientist to earn this prestigious honour, while another U of M trained physician was named one of the top 10 Family Physicians of the Year for 2012 by the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
  • The 2011 provincial election saw 25 of the possible 57 MLA spots, including Premier Greg Selinger, go to U of M alumni. As well, Manitoba’s current Lieutenant Governor is an alumnus – The Honourable Philip S. Lee.

Equally important as their contributions as professionals and community-builders, U of M alumni continue to be the greatest ambassadors for and supporters of their alma mater: in 2011, alumni and friends gave more than $12.5 million to the University of Manitoba.
