Fort Garry Campus

ARTlab

The (Art Research Technology) ARTlab received LEED Silver Certification for its environmental building design.

The Fort Garry campus is undergoing a dramatic transformation that will benefit students, faculty and staff. These extraordinary physical improvements will provide state-of-the-art facilities while ensuring the historic buildings that define the campus are preserved and celebrated.

  • In February 2012, School of Art students attended their first classes in the new ARTlab building. The facility encompasses 70,000 square feet of sound stages, workshops, art collection vaults, studio and gallery space and digital media labs.
  • Taché Hall is taking on a new life as the heart of a visual and performing arts hub. The 100-year-old building will be repurposed for the School of Art, the Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music, and the Department of English, Film and Theatre. The $90-million development includes a 500-seat concert hall, a 120-seat theatre, a new classroom addition, and renovation and retrofitting of the existing structure.
  • Also underway is the development of the Active Living Centre. The 100,000-square-foot health, wellness and fitness centre features a 200-metre indoor running track, a 40- foot climbing wall, and strength and conditioning training rooms.

The new, sleek and contemporary Pembina Hall Student Residence opened its doors to students in August 2011.
