Faculty of Medicine Referendum History


Student and faculty representatives from the Faculty of Medicine at a reception hosted by President & Vice-Chancellor David Barnard (right) to honour students’ generosity through the referenda process.

  • MMSA (Manitoba Medical Students Association) held first ever referendum in November 1996
  • Voted for a four year term; $50 per student; allocated to the Student Area in Brodie Centre
  • Votes held:
    • 2002 – $50 – Awards for Medicine Students
    • 2007 – $100 – Scholarships ($50), Clinical Learning Centre ($25) & Student-run Clinic ($25)
    • 2010 – $100 – MMSA Awards ($50), Student Initiative Fund ($40), & WISH Clinic ($10) 
  • A total of $331,388 since 1996
