What is the Isbister Legacy Society?
The Isbister Legacy Society was established in 1999 and recognizes over 700 individuals who have informed us about a gift in their will benefiting the University of Manitoba, or established another planned gift such as a life insurance policy, charitable gift annuity, charitable remainder trust and others. The society also recognizes individuals whose gifts are currently in action.
The society allows the university to recognize individuals for their thoughtful gift. It is also a means to celebrate the successes of the University of Manitoba with society members. This society honours the vision of the University’s first benefactor, Alexander Kennedy Isbister, who left the University of Manitoba its first bequest of $83,000 along with 4,958 books in 1883. Isbister's donation of his personal library marked the beginning of the present university libraries.
Too often the university has become aware of these special gifts only after the benefactor has passed away. At these times, proper appreciation cannot be expressed personally. Through the Isbister Legacy Society, the university can express its gratitude.
No gift is a small gift. Each gift makes a difference.
If you are planning to make one of the above gifts to the University of Manitoba and would like to join the Isbister Legacy Society, or would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact us at email@example.com. We would be pleased to help you.
Thank you for making a difference!
