Faculty members who realize that they will be unable to meet a scheduled class* are required to communicate this to their Department Head at the earliest opportunity, in order that appropriate action be taken to ensure the continuity of the work of the class. Faculty members who fail to meet a scheduled class without having given the required prior notice are required to report the fact to their Department Head at the first opportunity.

The reporting procedure provided for in the above is to be followed where a scheduled class is cancelled because of a faculty member's inability to meet it. It does not apply in situations where acceptable alternative arrangements have been made. In non-departmentalized academic units, it is the Dean who is to be informed.

* A scheduled class is any meeting of class and instructor(s) time-tabled or otherwise arranged to cover the course and credits from the start of classes to the end of classes in each term of the regular or summer session as defined in the University calendar.
