If you have an urgent requirement for provisional approval before the next scheduled meeting, please email Steve Cole and Peter Nickerson with your completed application and justification for the request. The application will still be reviewed in full at the next BSAC meeting.

BIOSAFETY PERMITS
A Biosafety Permit number is required for the possession and use of biological agents (Risk Group 1-3) in all research, teaching and clinical/diagnostic laboratories in University of Manitoba controlled buildings. The EHSO is responsible for administering the Biosafety Program as approved by the Biological Safety Advisory Committee (BSAC).

BIOSAFETY TRAINING
Effective March 1, 2012 EHSO Biosafety training is transitioning to a totally web-based format.  Generic Biosafety is still a one time requirement; lab personnel who have attended previously do not need to meet the new requirements. 

EHSO Generic Biosafety Training - Please complete the following: 
Biosafety Training Powerpoint - Review the Biosafety presentation and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) e-learning modules (link is found in the presentation).
Biosafety Quiz -Complete, submit and pass the quiz. The quiz is totally based on the e-learning modules and powerpoint. 

Departmental and PI training :
Departments are responsible for ensuring that the WHMIS requirements, including training, are implemented. PIs/supervisors are responsible for site-specific training. A discussion of site-specific training as it relates to biological agents can be found in the Biosafety Guide.  The Laboratory Safety Checklist for New Lab Personnel can be used to document training.
