Confined Space Entry

A Confined Space means and enclosed or partially enclosed space that

  1. except for the purpose of performing work, is not primarily designed or intended for human occupancy;
    and
  2. has restricted means of access or egress

The University of Manitoba has a confined space entry permit system in place. The purpose of this permit system is to help ensure that the hazards of a confined space are properly assessed and that necessary preventive and protective measures are taken to ensure the health and safety of workers.

Physical Plant maintains a list of the permit required confined spaces identified at the University of Manitoba. No entry is permitted into these spaces without a completed permit, duly authorized by the manager or supervisor responsible for the space. The list is comprehensive but may not be inclusive of all the confined spaces located on campus. If in doubt consult your supervisor immediately.

Please remember that a Hot Work Permit may also be required in addition to a confined space entry permit.

EHSO offers confined space entry training to University staff. To register for a confined space entry seminar please contact Terry Neufeld at 474-9031.
