Radiation Safety Training

[Scroll down for STAFF and STUDENTS THAT WORK WITH RADIATION HAZARDS]
Radiation safety training is required for everyone that works with or around radiation hazards. The type of training required depends on whether you work with the hazard, you work in the vicinity and if you supervised by someone from the lab.
Radiation Safety Training for Ancillary workers - Ancillary staff or students that work in labs (including radioisotope labs) when lab staff are not present (eg. Caretakers, Physcial Plant Staff, IT staff and Security Services staff) require radiation awareness training. Ideally, these workers and their supervisors should take the Lab Hazard Awareness Training (3 Hours) from EHSO at least once and use the Pamphlet for to refresh their awareness at least annually. To register for the Lab Hazard Awareness:
- Use the Learning and Development Services web site (click and then scroll down and click on "Environmental Health and Safety Office" and look for 'Lab Hazard')
- Contact EHSO directly at 474-9031 or EHSO@umanitoba.ca
Pamphlets for Ancillary staff, Contractors or visitors to lab (great for refreshing your training):
- Radioactive Materials Safety Pamphlet for non-permitted workers (EHSO pdf) X-ray Equipment Safety Pamphlet (EHSO pdf)
- Laser Safety Pamphlet (EHSO pdf)
Staff and students that do lab work should review the Basic Lab Safety and WHMIS power point (EHSO pdf, ppt)
