
Career growth and professional development are key drivers for employee engagement, and engagement is the key to high productivity. We recognize that people are inspired by a vision of their future options and goals, and we want our employees to see U of M as a place of potential for them, a place to build a career. We also want our employees to feel confident that, as an organization, we will support them in their professional development.
The needs and paths of support staff and academic staff are different. For both groups
of employees, we will more clearly outline potential career options and career paths. Particularly with regard to support staff, we will identify positions that people might be interested in at the U of M and outline the paths to attain those positions.
We will assess and enhance professional development supports, to clearly align professional development with career paths, employee interests and career development goals. We will enhance course offerings, mentoring programs and special project opportunities.
