Over the next few months, the University of Manitoba will be changing its recruitment platform from REACH-UM to UM Careers (through the existing human resource information system, VIP). The anticipated implementation date is in early November, 2017. There was no choice but to move to a new system because the vendor will no longer support U of M’s existing version of REACH UM after December 31, 2017.
The U of M already manages VIP and it has the capability for online recruiting. It was the logical choice to move our recruitment function to VIP in order to maintain our current level of functionality.
We will be posting the same types of jobs that are currently posted through REACH-UM:
• Posted support staff jobs (AESES, Unifor, CUPE 1482, EMAPS, etc.)
• Posted CUPE 3909 Sessionals and TAs (including Lecturer/Instructors and
Yes, you will be able to appoint candidates to non-posted requisitions (e.g., RFR and continuances) through VIP.
Job postings will be displayed through a UM Careers link on the HR webpage. External applicants will apply through the web listing; employees may apply through either the web page or within Employee Self-Service (ESS), which is accessed through JUMP.
You will create requisitions (both posted and non-posted) in the Manager Information Portal (within Employee Self-Service). There you will have access to view applications for your requisition.
No, but you do not have to create a new account. You will log into JUMP in the usual way and have appropriate access to VIP for recruitment purposes (either as an applicant or a hiring manager).
If you will continue to require access in order to post and/or fill requisitions, you will need to attend training. If you are unable to attend one of the scheduled sessions, HR will provide training either through a future-dated session or one-on-one.
Training sessions are scheduled for both Ft. Garry and Bannatyne campuses in October and are currently posted on the Learning and Organizational Development Services Registration System.
We are planning on a smooth transition from REACH-UM to VIP, however you may need to complete your REACH-UM requisitions (post, offer and appoint) in REACH-UM by a certain deadline date. Relevant information will be communicated as we get closer to the date of implementation.
No, due to time constraints we will not be converting information over to VIP from REACH-UM. We will be sending out a communication to all hiring managers in the near future, with information on how to download/print any material they wish to have. REACH-UM data will be securely archived but will not be viewable by anyone other than system administrators.
We will be populating VIP with role profiles for positions that are currently active. As new positions are created or vacant jobs are being posted, role profiles will be created by HR staff.
HR will be conducting an access requirements exercise to ensure that VIP recruitment access is provided to everyone that requires it. As a current hiring manager, you can expect to receive communication in late July or early August regarding system access.
The project team is mandated with keeping the transition from REACH-UM to VIP as smooth as possible. While most processes will remain unchanged, the general look and navigation within the tool will change.
Some of the positive process and functional changes that you can expect are:
• Your wait time for new position numbers will be greatly decreased
• You will be able to copy a requisition (instead of starting a similar one from scratch)
• You will be able to assign temporary view-only access to hiring committee members,
decreasing the amount of routing and/or copying resumes that you currently do
• More than one hiring manager in your unit will be able to access the same requisition at
the same time
