CHARACTER OF THE JOB

Incumbents at this level are responsible for ordering, receiving, storing and issuing of supplies and equipment in a small storeroom, or assisting at these duties in a large or central storage area. Incumbents receive close supervision during the training period. Supervision is received from a more senior storekeeper, administrator, or academic. Incumbents may be required to assist in the introductory training of new employees hired to positions of the same or a junior level.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Orders chemicals, supplies and equipment required to maintain a satisfactory level of inventory.
  • Sources out vendors and shipping companies.
  • Receives chemicals, supplies and equipment for storage or distribution including delivery.
  • May be required to estimate the storeroom's needs on a regular basis.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the stores area.
  • Maintains laboratories and makes minor repairs of equipment within a specific area.
  • May be responsible for the control and security of the stock in the storage room.
  • Stores and transports corrosive, explosive, flammable, or toxic chemicals.
  • Maintains inventory records.
  • Is required to obtain knowledge of and comply with safety policies applicable to the workplace.
  • Sorts and distributes mail.
  • Arranges for the shipment of goods.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

The minimum qualifications necessary for acceptable (satisfactory) job performance are:

Level of Formal Education

High school completion with job-related options plus one year of directly-related experience.

Experience

An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to relate well with other staff members and students.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Basic keyboard skills and ability to use computer-based inventory system.
  • Ability to make minor repairs to equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

Physical Requirements

Physically capable of performing the duties as assigned, which may include moderate to heavy lifting .
