CHARACTER OF THE JOB

The Physical Plant Department is responsible for the entire physical plant of the University including construction, renovations, provision of utility services, and the care and maintenance of all properties.

Under general supervision, the Lubrication & Equipment Service Worker - Class 2 is responsible for the lubrication and maintenance of equipment, repairs to small mechanical equipment, assisting with major equipment repairs and maintaining related records.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lubricates all types of equipment.
  • Replaces worn and broken belts.
  • Replaces or cleans filters as required.
  • Assists with equipment repairs or maintenance as required.
  • Diagnoses worn bearings.
  • Repairs small mechanical equipment.
  • Records hours of work on work orders and daily time sheets.
  • Performs general housekeeping of Mechanical Rooms and related areas.
  • Assists with the operation and maintenance of the Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment System.
  • Assists with operation of air compressors.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. .

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

The minimum qualifications necessary for acceptable (satisfactory) job performance are:

Level of Formal Education

  • Education to an acceptable level.
  • Must have at least a (Class 5) Driver's License valid in Manitoba.

Experience

  • At least two years of related experience.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the Reverse Osmosis System.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the equipment maintained by the department.
  • Must have a knowledge of the existing air compressors.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to learn new concepts.
  • Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Must have good communication and decision making skills.

Physical Requirements

Capable of performing the duties as assigned.

Physical Plant will instruct all employees to complete an Orientation Workshop, normally during the first day on the job, and the Health and Safety Orientation Module, normally during the probation period.  Employees will also be instructed to complete various workshops, such as Asbestos Awareness, etc. during the first year of employment depending upon an individual's classification."
