Distinguished Visiting Lecturer Program

Purpose of the Distinguished Visiting Lecturer program

The purpose of the program is to bring to the University of Manitoba distinguished individuals who are making outstanding contributions in particular fields deemed to be of significance to the University community.

Call For Nominations

The Committee for distinguished Visiting Lectureships is inviting members of the University community to forward nominations for distinguished visitors to come to the University of Manitoba.  Visiting lecturers are typically expected to give a public lecture that is of wide interest to the University at large and to conduct seminars or workshops with staff and students and to be available for consultation with them.  A typical visit would last three to five days, although the Committee will consider other proposals.

Each nomination should be accompanied by:

  1. a current curriculum vitae for the nominee
  2. a supporting statement from the nominator(s) giving reasons for support of the nominee proposed
  3. the proposed format of the visit– e.g., type of lectures, seminars, or other activities and probable dates for the visit
  4. statements from others supporting the nomination
  5. a preliminary budget that includes a suggestion as to suitable honorarium, an estimate of the total travel and living expenses involved, and a precise indication (i.e. dollar amounts) of what other sources of support have been applied for or received for this candidate.

Nominations should be forwarded to Kerry McQuarrie Smith, Executive Assistant to the President, 200 Administration Building, and will be accepted from individuals within or associated with the University.
