Assessment of Review

Following receipt of all reports, the Vice-Provost (Integrated Planning & Academic Programs) may invite the relevant Dean/Director, and the unit head, to discuss the review prior to preparing a report to the Provost, and the Senate Committee on Academic Review (SCAR).

The Provost and Vice-President (Academic) shall then provide a written assessment of each academic review to SCAR.

Senate Committee on Academic Review (SCAR)

Following completion of an academic review, the Senate Committee on Academic Review (SCAR)  may comment or recommend to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), on:

  • how well the academic unit’s mission statement and its teaching, research and community service relate to the University’s mission, emerging knowledge areas in related disciplines and societal needs;
  • the progress that the academic unit has made since the previous review of the academic unit or relevant academic program; and
  • the overall quality and plans on the academic unit for academic programs.

SCAR shall report annually to Senate on the status of academic reviews.

Follow-up to Review

Within one year of receipt of the responses from the relevant Dean/Director, the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) may contact the unit and request a report outlining the unit’s progress on implementing its plan. If the plan has not been fully implemented, further reports of the unit may be required.
