Andrew Konowalchuk
Associate Vice-President (Administration)
An accomplished capital planning professional with 15 years of experience in healthcare project delivery, Andrew Konowalchuk comes to the University of Manitoba from Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA), where he served as the Regional Director, Capital Planning. Andrew was active on 66 projects in excess of $1 billion, including the 700 McDermot Tower ($450 M) and the HSC Women’s Hospital ($240 M). His experience includes communicating and consensus-building with the civic and provincial governments, ancillary agencies, the public and many stakeholders essential in maintaining successful public institutions.
At Smith Carter Architects & Engineers in Winnipeg, Andrew was a Project Designer responsible for project delivery in multiple stages of design, contract administration and building proposals. He was involved in the design of the HSC Critical Services Redevelopment Project ($140 M) and collaborated on major tertiary health and post-secondary institutional projects, including the HSC-Critical Services Redevelopment Project; Centre for Disease Control – Building 18 Atlanta, Georgia; proposals for Level 4 laboratories at the University of California, Davis; and the BioDefense Laboratory at Ft. Detrick, Maryland.
As Planning Officer at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, Andrew was responsible for managing capital projects from design to occupancy, with major projects completed including the MRI Expansion/Renovation, Special Care Nurseries, MICU, R4 Laboratory Fit-Up, PYXIS implementation, and several Pharmacy upgrades.
Andrew holds a Master of Architecture Degree and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies Degree, both from the University of Manitoba. He has also attained Principles of Construction Specifications and Certified Construction Contract Administrator designations from Construction Specifications Canada.
Andrew is a member of The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, the Manitoba Association of Architects and the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society and Construction Specifications Canada.
