Alan A. Scott, MBA, CFE, CBCP, CRMA
Chief Risk Officer, Office of Risk Management & Security

Alan Scott was appointed Director of the Office of Risk Management & Security at the University of Manitoba in January of 2010.  Before his appointment, Alan spent over 33 years with the Winnipeg Police Service having risen to the rank of Inspector.  In his career as a police officer Alan served in a variety of administrative and operational units and divisions.

Alan was a member of the Winnipeg Police Service Disaster Management team for over ten years and was the team leader for three years.  Alan served as the on-site commander in St. Norbert while it was evacuated during the Red River Flood of 1997.  In addition, as a team member or leader he responded to a number of incidents including three plane crashes, a train derailment and a propane tanker rollover.

Alan is a graduate of Athabasca University having received his Master of Business Administration in 2009.  Alan has attended the Canadian Police College, the Canadian Emergency Preparedness College and participated in joint training at the Canadian Forces Staff College in Kingston, Ontario.   In 2006 Alan was chosen as one of sixteen senior Canadian police officers to participate in an international research project (ISIS-2006) co-sponsored by the Institute for Strategic International Studies and the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.   The research took Alan to a number of cities and locations in England and Wales where the team examined police integration issues.

Alan is a Certified Fraud Examiner (Association of Certified Fraud Examiners), a Certified Business Continuity Professional (Disaster Recover Institute International) and holds a Certification in Risk Management Assurance (Institute of Internal Auditors).  Alan also serves on the board of directors of the Canadian Centre for Child Protection & Child Find Ontario and is a member of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Senate.
