Immunology Announcement

With the help of a $1.6 million investment under the Winnipeg Partnership Agreement, the Immunology Research Facility at the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Medicine's will be expanded and enhanced giving students and researchers access to new technologies and programs and increased commercialization opportunities.

Honourable Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board, Marilyn Brick, MLA for St. Norbert and Deputy Mayor of Winnipeg, Brenda Leipsic, made the announcement on February 29th, 2008.

The University of Manitoba's Immunology Department, which is credited as being the first of its kind at a Canadian university, has outgrown its current location at the Basic Medical Sciences Building.  The new funding will allow the Department to move to the 4th floor of the Apotex Centre, currently under construction at the University' s Bannatyne Campus.  The move will enable the University's Immunology Department to attract, train and retain the highly qualified personnel required to support the growing immunology and infectious disease research cluster in Manitoba.
