Tyler MacAfee is the Director of Government and Community Engagement at the University of Manitoba and part of the External Relations leadership team. Tyler leads the Office of Government and Community Engagement whose mandate is to facilitate mutually-beneficial engagement with University partners, including facilitating public policy dialogue and the engagement of students and faculty in public policy development, strengthening linkages between the University and the community, and encouraging increased community access to, and usage of, the University’s facilities. In addition, Tyler works closely with other units to position the University as a key partner with the broad community and with all levels of government to promote the University’s perspectives, positions and priorities.
Before joining the University in 2011, Tyler spent close to 10 years with the Association of Manitoba Municipalities as the Director of Policy and Communications, leading a number of important advocacy initiatives for the organization and working closely with the provincial government on a number of policy and legislative changes.
Tyler holds a Masters Degree in Political Science from Simon Frasier University and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree from the University of Regina.
Tyler lives in Winnipeg and is married with three daughters.
