In September 2011, the University of Manitoba started a new conversation with the community - a conversation that was visionary and bold in its approach. Visionary Conversations, a speaker series hosted by President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. David T. Barnard, has grown to be a forum where the university's leading minds share their insight on issues affecting our world and how the decisions we make today will shape our future.
Each lively conversation relates to an area of strength outlined in the university’s Strategic Planning Framework, reflecting the role the university can and should play in fostering dialogue around emerging issues. In its inaugural year, these themes included the forces challenging and shaping livable cities in the 21st century, the impact of our aging population, global climate change, managing our water resources, gender equality issues and the food we eat.
For the 2012 – 2013 season, Visionary Conversations is back to continue the debate around nine lively new topics, here in Winnipeg, and even more as Visionary Conversations makes its international debut.
Visionary Conversations was honoured in 2012 for Best Community Outreach Initiative by the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE).
