Mr. John Kearsey
Throughout his career, Mr. Kearsey has focused on building philanthropic support and pursuing purpose-driven stakeholder relations. In progressively senior roles, Mr. Kearsey has led and been part of teams that have achieved success in million and multi-million dollar fundraising campaigns, working with donors and alumni around the globe. His solid experience in marketing and communications has ensured a comprehensive approach to higher education advancement and external stakeholder relations.
Before coming to the University of Manitoba, Mr. Kearsey served as Divisional Director, Donor, Alumni and Community Relations at Monash University, Australia’s largest, most research-intensive international university. There, he was responsible for building a division that has a solid alignment of donor and campaign relations, alumni relations, stewardship, communications, and information and systems management.
Earlier, he served as vice-president, DVA Navion International Fundraising Consultants (Canada) from 2003 until 2006, working with the University of Regina as its campaign director and director of donor and alumni relations. From 2001–2003, he served as the Director of Alumni Affairs and Development at Memorial University. Prior to this, he served in development and communications roles with the University of Western Ontario, St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation (London, ON), and the Newfoundland Cancer Treatment & Research Foundation.
Mr. Kearsey is originally from Newfoundland and Labrador and earned a Bachelor of Arts (Religious Studies and English) and a Certificate in Business Administration from Memorial University of Newfoundland. He has participated in several leadership and management development programs including the Harvard University Business School High Potential Leadership Program. Mr. Kearsey is a recipient and alumnus of the prestigious Terry Fox Humanitarian Award.
