Exploring Canadian and European Practices and
Policy Options for Sustainable Agriculture

A Student Exchange Program

Call for Applications

Undergraduate and graduate students in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Faculty of Law and the Natural Resources Institute are invited to submit applications for a student exchange program for one term of study in Europe during the 2001-2002 school year. The participating European universities are: Université de Liège (Liège, Belgium), Université de Montpellier (Montpellier, France), Ecole Nationale Supérieure Agronomique de Montpellier (Montpellier, France), Norwegian Agricultural University (Ås Norway), and Swedish Agricultural University (Uppsala, Sweden). Students taking a term at any of these universities must meet language requirements (French for the Université de Liège, Ecole Nationale Supérieure Agronomique de Montpellier, and Université de Montpellier; Norwegian and English for the Norwegian Agricultural University, and English for the Swedish Agricultural University). (In the case of French speaking universities, expect to be tested). Students must take the equivalent of a full course load during the term (as defined by the university that they are visiting) with at least one course that would qualify as being related to sustainable agriculture. The selected students will register and pay tuition at the University of Manitoba and will receive $1,000.00 in travel funds and could receive
$500.00 in language training funds (depends on country of exchange). The University of Manitoba has 8 guaranteed openings for students available for the academic year 2001-2002. In addition the University of Manitoba along with the University of Guelph has first call on any unfilled openings at the University of
Saskatchewan and the University of British Columbia for the 2001-2002 academic year.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

This program is for the fourth year of an undergraduate program, the third year of a law program, or the first two years of a graduate program in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Faculty of Law, or Natural Resources Institute. Students applying should be in good standing with the University. Selection of students for the program will be based on their academic record, their language fluency, and how the program in sustainable agriculture will benefit their program. Flexibility in choice of University for study abroad and flexibility of which term the exchange takes place in will also factor in selection.

Application

Application should be made by letter.
