PRE-VETERINARY PROGRAM

To apply to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Manitoba residents must complete two years of studies made up of University 1 and 30 credit hours in the faculty of agricultural and food sciences. After completing these two years of university training, students with acceptable academic standing as well as exceptional performance in other required areas (for example, volunteering in the veterinary field) may be admitted to the doctor of veterinary medicine program. Many students receive an undergraduate degree before entering veterinary studies.

Students from other provinces must apply to the appropriate veterinary colleges and are responsible for establishing their residency.

The pre-veterinary program must include:
- one full course in English
- one full course in physics
- one full course in biochemistry
- one full course in mathematics or statistics
- one half course in microbiology
- one and a half full courses in biology or zoology (including genetics)
- one and a half full courses in chemistry (including organic chemistry)
- enough electives to complete two full years

These requirements can be met with the following program design. Some changes may be possible.
