FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR STUDY IN THE
DIPLOMA IN AGRICULTURE PROGRAM

In addition to scholarships and bursaries, two government programs support training in the Diploma in Agriculture program at the University of Manitoba.

Agri-Excellence Program
This program supports skill development and learning to help participants meet their business goals and includes business skills and business development. The goal is to cover gaps in funding that are not currently provided through other programs. All training funded through this program must be complete by March 31, 2013.

The program helps applicants gain or upgrade skills that will help them better mange their businesses and meet market/consumer demands for food safety, quality and environmental responsibility.

Applicants must be farmers and agri-product processors who are doing business as a farm or an agri-product processor in Manitoba. Applicants must take courses from approved sources, including, but not limited to:

  • courses delivered by accredited educational institutions
  • courses offered through Manitoba Food Processors Association
  • courses from other associations that improve value-added business practices

To qualify, applicants must work with their local MAFRI rural leadership specialist who will help them develop an individual learning plan. When that’s completed and approved, the applicant can apply for funding.

Funds are available up to $10,000 per applicant for training that addresses the goals identified in the learning plan. Eligible costs include:

  • registration or tuition fees of approved courses
  • books and other education supplies for the approved courses

For more information, visit your Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives Growing Opportunities Office; or call Manitoba Government Inquiry at 1-866-626-4862 for the GO Office nearest you.

Employment Insurance (EI)
Students who qualify for Employment Insurance can receive financial support to cover some costs in the Diploma in Agriculture program. To determine if you qualify, visit your local Employment Insurance office.
