PHYSICAL PLANT DEPARTMENT, UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA
March 2012 Update


The Physical Plant Department is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Fort Garry and Bannatyne Campuses, Glenlea Research Station, Delta Marsh and Star Lake Field Stations, and the President’s residence.  The Fort Garry and Bannatyne Campuses contain more than 100 buildings with a total area in excess of 6.47) million gross square feet.  The Fort Garry and Bannatyne Campuses consists of over 575 acres, of which 307 acres is developed land.  Physical Plant has a full time baseline funded staff of 164 staff and a full time income funded staff of 56. Caretaking Services has a staff compliment of 153 baseline funded staff and 8.25 income funded staff, which is managed by Aramark.

 

In 2011/12, Physical Plant was responsible for the administration and management of $45 million in operations and utilities, $3.02 million in Renovations and Equipment Capital, $2.13 million in Indirect Costs of Research projects, and $105 million in Infrastructure projects, Knowledge Infrastructure Program (KIP) projects, and major construction/renovation projects. In fiscal 2011/12 there have been 257 projects completed to-date and over 600 active projects.

 

A number of significant projects during the upcoming planning period include the design and construction of the new Active Living Centre, the Bannatyne Electrical Re-servicing Project is underway, the Redevelopment of Tache Hall Phase II Addition and Renovations will begin, the 5th floor Wallace Building Phase II Development of Infill Space will be completed during the year and the asbestos encapsulation and installation of the sprinkler system at BMSB will begin.
