The University of Manitoba Sustainability Committee is very pleased to release: Sustainability at The University of Manitoba: A Strategic Vision for Action.  The release of this document marks a significant milestone in the university’s efforts to improve sustainability and operate in a way that respects and supports our environment. In an effort to become a leader in this regard, the University of Manitoba Sustainability Committee has developed a comprehensive action plan that sets out a number of goals and actions with respect to campus operations, planning and community engagement.

On June 26th, 2012, the University of Manitoba's Board of Governors approved the following motion:

"THAT the Board of Governors affirms the motivation and overall direction of the strategic vision for sustainability at the University of Manitoba and directs the administration to use it in that sense, seeking approval as needed from appropriate managers and bodies (Senate, Board Committees, and the Board itself), while maintaining awareness of and connection to best practice as represented by other key documents in the literature".

Ideas and feedback received from the university community (What We Were Told)  formed the foundation of this action plan and we greatly appreciate your continued support in this process. The Sustainability Committee and its working groups listened to your ideas and suggestions and integrated them into an action plan that reflects your priorities. The result is a plan that fosters a culture of sustainability at our institution and integrates sustainability planning and action into all of our functions.  A Strategic Vision for Action is the beginning of our institution’s transformation into a more sustainable place in which to learn, work and play.
