Eco-Reps Program

Sustainability at the University of Manitoba is an important priority. We've made important gains in the past few years, reducing our water consumption by 50% over 12 years, reducing our emissions through lighting and energy retrofits and diverting over 600 metric tonnes of recyclable and organic materials from the landfill this past fiscal year. However, there is still much more to do. And we need your department’s help!

The Eco-Reps Departmental program is an initiative whereby departments appoint or give permission to one representative who will promote sustainability in their respective offices. This may include, for example, attending a monthly meeting with other eco-reps to exchange ideas, distributing information to colleagues on reducing paper consumption or recycling or acting as a point person for questions related to the University’s sustainability initiatives. All in all, this may require two to three hours of the eco-reps’ time per month.

Here's how to get started:

1. Fill in and return the permission form - make sure your department head signs it!

2. Once I have the form, you will receive an intro package (eletronically) that will help you establish yourself as your department's eco-rep.

3. Attend the next meeting!
