In addition to providing numerous services to the community, Security Services Patrol Officers have the authority to enforce a variety of University regulations, Federal and Provincial Statutes and Municipal By-Laws.

Security Guards are licenced in accordance with the Provincial Security Guard Act.

Student Patrols are full-time registered students of the University of Manitoba.

History

The Campus Police (currently titled Security Services) Department was formed in the mid 1950s.  At that time, there were only 4 campus police officers who also worked as firefighters for the University.

As the University began to grow and enrollment continued to increase, the role of a police presence on campus began to change.  In 1998, a name change occurred and the department was renamed to Security Services to more accurately reflects its role within the university.

Today, the department has a compliment of 24 Patrol Officers and 4 Shift Supervisors who work rotating shifts on a 24-hour basis.  A Community Liaison Officer is also available Monday to Friday during daytime hours as well as a part time Investigator.
