Non Violent Crisis Intervention

 

Non Violent Crisis Intervention is a program designed to teach individuals how to deal with disruptive behaviour in a non violent, non intrusive manner.  The program is available to all staff at the University of Manitoba. The seminar topics are:  Feel Safe at Work, Defusing Disruptive and Assaultive Individuals.  Learn to control behaviour before it becomes disruptive and prepare staff for potentially violent episodes.  Participants of the course are given hands on training and are taught by a certified NVCI Instructor.

In the course, you will learn:

  • When it’s appropriate to physically intervene.
  • How to develop team intervention strategies and techniques.
  • How to assess the physical and psychological well-being of those involved in a crisis.
  • How to safely and effectively control and transport an individual.
  • How to maintain rapport with the acting-out individual.
  • Key steps for debriefing after a crisis.
  • How to properly document an incident.

**Please note that classes are only open to current University of Manitoba students and staff.**

Courses in Non Violent Crisis Intervention are taught by Supervisor Kurt Christoph and Patrol Officer Charles Crawley who are both certified Non Violent Crisis Intervention Instructors and have received their training through the Crisis Prevention Institute.
