Safewalk Program

Student Patrol consists of students from The University of Manitoba who work on a part-time or volunteer basis. The patrols work in pairs and can be easily identified by their blue 'Safewalk' jackets/shirts with yellow lettering and picture I.D. cards. The patrol teams are in constant contact with the Security Services via two-way radios. The primary responsibility of the Student Patrol is to conduct 'Safewalks'.   Other responsibilities include patrolling areas on the campus and providing addtional support for special events such as Convocation. This program provides the public with an excellent safety program.

The Safewalk Program was created by utilizing the theory that there is safety in numbers. It is available on both the Fort Garry and Bannatyne campuses. Students, staff, and visitors of the University community can request a Safewalk 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Security Services will accompany an individual from one  University location to another University location, to their vehicle or to the bus stop on University property.  Student Patrol has both volunteer and paid positions.   Applications can be obtained at our offices or at the link on the right.

The Student Patrol Program is under the direct supervision of Community Constable Doug Heinrichs. Community Constable Heinrichs can be reached by email at Doug.Heinrichs@ad.umanitoba.ca
