Debra V. Wilson
Debra V. Wilson is a MA Candidate in Canadian Mennonite University’s Peacebuilding and Collaborative Development programme. Her undergraduate preparation is in business with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Mundelein College at Loyola University Chicago.
In the 1980’s whilst pursuing a business career in Chicago, Ms. Wilson frequently traveled to London, England, working with feminist NGO’s on issues related to security and women.  Post 9/11, her activism expanded to include working with some British Muslim communities in partnerships with feminist NGO’s, the Metropolitan Police Service and the House of Lords, to better understand how some Muslim youth experienced Britain’s national security modelling.
Ms. Wilson has a weekly YouTube podcast where she discusses her twenty-five years of activism in the UK, her experiences during ‘the Troubles’ in Dundalk, County Louth (Ireland), her engagement with Israeli civil society and Israel’s national security modelling and emerging changes in Canada’s national security modelling.    She is also a member of Women In International Security (WIIS) – Canada
Ms. Wilson is in the United Kingdom seeking a research based postgraduate programme.  Her research proposal is entitled, Institutional Memory and Experiential Learning: Functionality, Adaptability, Resilience and the United Kingdom’s Internal National Security Model (Apparatus).  On Saturday, 21 September 2019 in London, UK at the Bedford Centre for the History of Women and Gender interdisciplinary conference on Gender, Religion and Power, Ms. Wilson will present the paper, The Sanctification of the Gender Female for the ‘Good Fight.’  Her paper is an analysis of religion’s influence on the construct of gender female in Canada, Israel, the UK and the US during times of conflict. Lastly Ms. Wilson is a Junior Affiliate of Canadian network for research on terrorism, security and society (TSAS). Her research interests are in understanding the ways in which national security modelling is influenced by civil society in Canada, Israel and the United Kingdom.
