The Centre for Higher Education Research and Development (CHERD), University of Manitoba, is offering a professional development day for senior women academic administrators immediately before the 2009 SWAAC Annual Meeting. The session will be held at the Donald Gordon Conference Centre at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, the same venue as the SWAAC meeting. The program will run from 1.00 to 5.00 p.m. on Wednesday April 29 and from 8.00 am to 12 .00 noon on Thursday April 30, prior to the opening SWAAC reception on Thursday evening. Based on input from SWAAC members the following topics will be covered:
Leadership and management: complementary but different skills
Exercising leadership – trust in leadership, leadership styles, leading in difficult economic times
Changes in the environment, including the changing nature of the workforce
Emerging cyber law
Human rights, dealing with workplace harassment.
The course leaders are Dr. Sheila Brown and Ms. Sheila Devine, both experienced CHERD instructors with extensive experience in university administration.
