Centre For Higher Education Research And Development

Mission Statement

At the Centre for Higher Education Research and Development (CHERD) we seek to generate and translate knowledge into practice in the effective management of colleges and universities, and in the areas of teaching and learning.

With particular emphasis on the University of Manitoba, but with a commitment as well to provincial, national and international settings, the Centre aims to:

  • foster the preparation of scholars and highly-trained practitioners in the field of higher education through the provision of specialized graduate programs of national stature, and through more general programs designed to assist graduate students from any discipline to prepare for the role of postsecondary teacher;

  • further the continuing professional development of the teaching, administrative and managerial staff within postsecondary institutions in the knowledge and skills inherent in those roles;

  • stimulate, nurture and champion research in higher education generally, and research within the focused areas of teaching and learning and administration and management specifically; and

  • assist and encourage the broad dissemination of scholarship in those areas, both among scholars in the field and more generally to the higher education community as a whole, in a form that is readily usable.
