Volume 13 Number 2
1985 March

This collection has been issued to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the CBC Radio program, "Anthology." Robert Weaver, who began the show in 1954 and has aided the careers of scores of Canadian writers, has included in The Anthology Anthology short stories, poems, interviews and prose pieces, all of which had their first publication on "Anthology."

For a quick Who's Who of Canadian literature, reading the table of contents of this volume would be a good place to start. Of course, not every well known Canadian writer can be included in one collection, but the choice is representative. Some of the selections will be familiar to many readers, for example, Alice Munro's story, "The Shining Houses," or Audrey Thomas's "Natural History." A few entries appear in print for the first time in this anthology, such as Charles Ritchie's memoir, "My Cousin Gerald." Each of the twenty-one selections is well worth reading-no slipped stitches here.

This book is eminently suitable for high school collections. There are brief biographical sketches of each contributor and a wide range of well-chosen selections covering a thirty year time span. Highly recommended.
