I examined the preliminary edition of volume 2 of this text book. The publishers state that "revisions based on feedback will be made for the final published text." Some of the planned illustrations were not included in this edition.

This oversize paperback contains chapters seven to fifteen, organized in related units covering such topics as lifestyle, groups, roles, work, resources, and politics. Good use of heavy type is made for special terms and for section headings. Each chapter has boxed off sections for case studies, with questions following, skill-boxes, and suggested activities. Captions for the planned illustrations are also pan of the text. The existing illustrations are all black and white and quite dull. This may, in part, be due to the newsprint quality of the paper.

This text is designed for high school students in grades 11 or 12. As well as the poor quality of the illustrations, there is no index, nor a bibliography of useful titles. Some of the definitions in the glossary are quite inadequate. The language of the text itself could also do with more editing. Teachers of man in society, sociology, or social studies may want to examine this text for classroom use.
