Clumsy, self-conscious writing characterizes this fantasy about Orion and his faithful hound, Sirius. Changel is gazing sleepily at the stars as her father reads a guide to help them identify the different constellations. In the process of searching for Orion, her dad suddenly falls into a deep sleep, a mist creeps up, and the giant Orion and Sinus appear.

Orion has been tricked by the King of Chios, who promised him the hand of his daughter, Merope. Instead he poisons Orion, weakening him. Changel becomes Orion's guide as he attempts to escape the jealous Diana, goddess of the night, who is attempting to kill him for accepting Merope's hand. Only the dawn will allow him to regain his strength so that he may fight Diana. Carrying Changel, Orion walks among the stars, describing the various constellations.

For the most part these lengthy descriptions serve as constant distractions from the plot. The illustrations seem to belittle the text and the characters even further.
