This is a completely revised and updated edition of the useful reference source on Canadian education. This brief publication could be useful to educators, students, administrators and trustees, or any other stakeholder in the education system in Canada. It provides an overview of educational practice and policy across the nation. Included are chapters on the role of the federal government in education, the organization and structure of education in the provinces and territories, and an overview of schools - from elementary to post-secondary and adult continuing education.

Up-to-date statistics (1990-91) are provided, and a useful appendix contains addresses of major federal, provincial and territorial departments, ministries, and other educational organizations and agencies. There is brief mention of such interesting aspects of current educational concern as multigrade classrooms and gender composition in the teaching force and in administration.

One must look elsewhere for an in-depth coverage of education in the country, but I do recommend this booklet as an easy-to-use ready reference source that provides a better understanding of Canadian education. It would be a suitable resource for junior secondary to adult audiences.
