This title is an update of Five Canadian Plays (Playwrights Co-op, 1978). The collection contains the following titles: Heroes (1971) by Ken Mitchell, Babel Rap (1972) by John Lazarus, Hurray for Johnny Canuck (1975) by Ken Gass, The Komataga Maru Incident (1978) by Sharon Pollock, Hedges (1985) by Dave Carley and Moon People (1988) by Aviva Ravel.

There is a brief editor's foreword and an introduction by Ken Gass. Gass attempts to develop the idea that these plays reflect the Canadian perception of heroes and anti-heroes. This attempt to link the titles is not convincing. The titles represent a variety of styles from absurd through cartoon, ending with Pollock's docu-drama.

The text presents a varied sample of contemporary Canadian drama and would be a resource for people who have not previously read these titles. It is suitable for theatre/English students aged fifteen and up as an auxiliary source.
