Research interests: Modern Chinese history with an emphasis on intellectual, gender, and cultural history. I have two major ongoing research projects: one, study of the roles of hero(in)es, history, and human agency in the prograganda and political culture of Mao's China; and, two, study of the politics and social meaning of clothing and fashion in communist China.
