I received my B.A.Hons. degree in Classics in 1996 from the University of New Brunswick, and my M.A. degree in Ancient History in 1998 from Dalhousie University. I have just completed my Ph.D. in Classics (Latin) at the University of Durham. I arrived at the University of Manitoba in September 2001.
My teaching responsibilities include most areas of Latin Literature (studied in translation and in Latin) and Roman History.
My primary research area is Latin historiography, especially Livy's Ab Vrbe Condita. I have papers forthcoming on Livy and Xenophon. As a future project I intend to write a book on narrative his Bellum Civile.
Current projects include papers on Livy and Caesar, a book on narrative in Caesar's Bellum Civile, and a book on history in Lucretius' De Rerum Natura.
I have had book reviews published in (or about to be published in) HISTOS, Bryn Mawr Classical Review, Journal of Roman Studies, Phoenix and Mouseion.
I have presented papers at universities in Canada ( Dalhousie, Manitoba) and the UK (Birmingham(twice), Durham, Warwick, Institute of Classical Studies, Bristol, Edinburgh). In 2002-2003 I plan to speak at the University of Calgary and the University of New Brunswick.
