BA(Hons), MA, PhD(McGill). Assistant Professor in English, Theatre and Drama. Major interests: Shakespeare, critical theory, dramatic theory, feminist theory, modern British drama, voice and text, Chekhov. Publications include "Affirmative Shakespeare at Canada's Stratford Festival" in Essays in Theatre, 17.2(May 1999): 139-63. Awarded the Richard Plant Award by The Association for Canadian Theatre Research for this article. Forthcoming: "Stratford and the Aspirations for a Canadian National Theatre," in Shakespeare in Canada: "A World Elsewhere"? University of Toronto Press, ca Fall 2002. A book on Canada's Stratford Festival from a cultural materialist perspective is in progress. Midway through a major, book-length project concerning women directors of Shakespeare in Twentieth-Century Britain, including the work of Joan Littlewood, Buzz Goodbody, Deborah Warner and Katie Mitchell. Also doing work in the analysis of popular culture, including the British television series of the 60s, The Avengers. Trained as an actor in Canada and England. Extensive professional experience as an actor on stage, TV, and film. Acting credits include: Masha in Three Sisters, Sister George in The Killing of Sister George, Paulina in The Winter's Tale, Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Harriet in Back to Beulah. Professional directing credits include Stephen Poliakoff's Hitting Town, and works by Tennessee Williams. Most recently directed Pinter's The Birthday Party, Moliére's Tartuffe & Shakespeare's As You Like It at The University of Manitoba's Black Hole Theatre. Will be directing Pinter's The Hot House for PinterFest in January 2003.
