Occasionally you may need to disable your pop-up blocker for websites you use. Many Web browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.), as well as add-on toolbars (Google toolbar, etc), block pop-up windows.

You may need to disable pop-up blocking for our unsecured wireless, JUMP, WebCT, or Webmail.

Allowing pop-ups for specific websites

Internet Explorer 6 and 7
(Windows XP and Vista)

The version of IE 6 included in the Service Pack 2 version of Window XP as well as Windows Vista has a built in pop-up blocker.

To allow pop-ups for a particular site you need to add that site to a list:

  1. From the 'Tools' menu select 'Pop-up Blocker > Pop-up Blocker Settings...'
  2. In the 'Pop-up Blocker Settings' dialog box type the name of the site Eg: umanitoba.ca or 1.1.1.1 (for the 'unsecured wireless') and click the 'Add' button.
Mozilla Firefox 2:
  1. From the 'Tools' menu select 'Options'.
  2. Click on
  3. Beside 'Block pop-up windows', click
  4. In the address box, type in the website you wish to allow pop-ups for.
Eg: 1.1.1.1 (unsecured wireless) or umanitoba.ca
Click Add. The website should now be excluded from the pop-up blocker
  5. Click on the 'Close' button, and then click OK.
Norton Internet Security 2006
  1. Go the the site eg: umanitoba.ca/jump or the unsecured wireless login page.
  2. Find the Norton Internet Security toolbar in Internet Explorer
  3. Click the Norton icon and untick 'Block popups on this site'.
Safari
  1. From the 'Safari' menu, uncheck 'Block Pop-Up Windows'
