Secured Wireless (WiFi) Network (uofm-secure) - Setup Instructions

NEW Wifi Certificate renewal, Wednesday March 13, 2019. You may receive a notification to "trust" this new certificate when you connect. If you cannot connect, you will need to "Forget" the network on your device. See instructions how to do this, here.

Below are the instructions and technical specifications to set up a connection with the University of Manitoba secured wireless network (uofm-secure). WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) is a standard protocal on newer wireless devices but with the existance of multiple versions of operating systems across numerous manufacturers, IST cannot support all the platforms. Below you will find links to WiFi instuctions for supported devices.

If your device is not listed already then the following information may assist you in configuring your device:

SSID : uofm-secure
Security Type: WPA2 or WPA Enterprise
Encryption Type: AES (paired with WPA2) or TKIP (paired with WPA)
Authentication Type: Protected EAP (PEAP)
Authentication Method: EAP-MSCHAPv2
Trusted Root Certification: GlobalSign Root CA

Students: enter your myumanitoba email address and password.
Staff: enter your umnetid and password

How to forget a network (Instructions)

Iphone / Ipad

  1. From the home screen, choose Settings.
  2. In the settings menu, choose Wi-Fi.
  3. Locate uofm-secure and click the blue symbol next to the name.

If the option to forget the network is available, tap Forget this Network and attempt to reconnect to uofm-secure. If you do not see the option to forget the network:

  1. From the home screen, choose Settings.
  2. In the settings menu, choose General.
  3. Locate Profile and tap on it.
  4. Select the profile for uofm-secure.
  5. Tap on delete profile.
  6. Now attempt to reconnect.


Android:

  1. From the home screen, choose Settings.
  2. In the settings menu, choose Wi-Fi.
  3. Locate uofm-secure and tap or press and hold it.
  4. Choose Forget.
  5. Now attempt to reconnect.


Windows 10:

  1. Click the Network icon on the lower right corner of your screen.
  2. Choose Network settings.
  3. Click on Manage Wi-Fi settings.
  4. Under Manage known networks, select uofm-secure.
  5. Then click Forget.
  6. Now attempt to reconnect.

Mac OS :

  1. Click the wifi symbol at the top of your screen, and select Open Network Preferences.
  2. In the lower-right corner, choose Advanced.
  3. Under Preferred Networks select uofm-secure.
  4. Click the minus (-) button to forget.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Now attempt to reconnect.
