Incident Reporting

Reporting of information security incidents is necessary to ensure that a proper and timely response can be initiated to control, eliminate, investigate and document events that could potentially disrupt the operation of the university or compromise university data.

Reporting also enhances the awareness of trends in security incidents that indicate the need for adjustments in the University's security program.

In certain circumstances, due to the sensitive nature of an incident, people may be concerned about reporting to the IST Help and Solutions Centre.  In such cases the person may directly contact the:

Email spam complaints may be reported to abuse@umanitoba.ca

Examples of computer security related incidences include, but are not limited to:

• unauthorized use of your account
• harassing email
• viruses/email hoaxes/phishing scams
• incidents in the open-area computer labs
• copyright violations
• loss, theft or damage of a device, media or paper records that contain sensitive data
• malicious software on systems that store sensitive data and data subject to FIPPA and PHIA policies
• attempts (failed or successful) to gain unauthorized access to a system or its data
• defacement of a University website
