About the Project
The University of Manitoba is moving towards a more sustainable and economical printing environment. Print Services Project (PSP) aims to shift us to a more sustainable way of printing and copying.
Our goal is to minimize our impact on the environment and reduce the overall cost of printing/copying at the University Of Manitoba.
There were over 3300 printing devices of different makes and models requiring different drivers and toner cartridges. Many of these devices were not energy efficient and were costly to run and maintain.
By replacing the inefficient devices with smaller numbers of high quality, uniform and more efficient models, we can gain significant savings. These savings will come in the form of lower environmental impact, reduced paper waste, and lower energy consumption along with overall cost savings. Having a smaller range of copiers and printers on campus will also improve reliability, and support thus freeing the time our IT staff spends on printing issues.
Our Mission
The Print Services Program aims to:
• Provide a streamlined approach to printing and copying
• Ensure the needs of each department are properly met and each device is properly utilized
• Reduce environmental footprint:
•Retention of current and relatively new low-cost print devices for the remainder of their useful life
- Promote paper conservation by encouraging deliberate and appropriate use of copiers and printers
- Reduction in total number of print devices
Expectations:
• There will be a learning curve as you become accustomed to the new devices and the environment. We thank you in advance for your patience
• Improvements and the benefits to may not be recognized at the onset but the process will become better over time. Your feedback will assist in enriching the procedures
• If you encounter a need that cannot be met within the current printing model, the support team is here to help you find a solution
• A lot of what we print ends up in the recycle bin shortly after we read it. We would like to ask you to pause and ask yourself if the document really needs to be printed before sending it to the printer
