Resources

WestGrid
WestGrid is a consortium of Universities across Western Canada in high performance computing. WestGrid currently provides HPC facilities ranging from SMP Systems with up to 256 processors and clusters with up to 3072 processors. Any researcher at the University of Manitoba with computing needs is eligible to apply for an account at WestGrid. More information about WestGrid is available at the WestGrid website or by downloading the WestGrid Handbook for University of Manitoba Researchers. WestGrid is the main HPC resource provider to researchers at the University of Manitoba.

Compute Canada
Compute Canada coordinates the HPC resources across Canada and consists of seven regional consortia. WestGrid is one of these consortia. University of Manitoba researchers are eligible to apply for an account at all of the HPC consortia. However, WestGrid should be the preferred choice since the University of Manitoba is a member institution of WestGrid. A summary of compute facilities across Canada is available here.

Local Resources
IST maintains a number of servers that are dedicated to running computationally intensive jobs. These servers are open to anyone who has a University of Manitoba computer account. Unlike the above resources, these servers can also be used for teaching purposes. The available servers are listed as compute server or compute node on this page.

There are also several HPC servers and clusters that are owned and maintained by various departments and research groups. You may have access to these resources depending on your affiliations.

Other Resources
If you are unable to find a resource that is suitable for your research project, you are encouraged to contact the support staff to discuss any options.
