The Food Science Department is presently housed in two buildings located on the Fort Garry Campus. Research laboratories for food chemistry, cereal chemistry, food proteins, food carbohydrates, food biotechnology, food processing and food microbiology exist in the Ellis Building. The Dairy Building houses departmental efforts pertaining to dairy science. Each building contains a pilot plant which allow teaching on a more practical basis. The one in the Ellis Building is meant for work involving meat and food processing including processed smoked meats, extrusion and canning.. The Ellis Building contains the main research laboratories as well as classroom and laboratory instruction.
