Thesis Title:

Fate of herbicides and estrogens in two landscapes in relation to pesticide fate modeling at large scale

Project Description:

It is a NSERC-SPG project, a collaborative work with a team of research scientists to develop and test an integrated pesticide/estrogen fate model to estimate the types and amounts of pesticides/estrogens (2,4-D, Glyphosate, Atrazine, estrogens like 17β-estradiol, estrone or estriol) entering groundwater and prairie wetlands. I am also working on Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy and degradation of pesticides in soil landscapes.

The main objectives of my study are to:

  1. Quantify the spatial variability of sorption parameters of selected herbicides and estrogens in hummocky terrains as a function of digital terrain parameters and soil properties
  2. Determine the application of Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy as a tool to define the spatial variabity of herbicide and estrogen sorption in hummocky terrains
  3. Compare the degradation potential of herbicides in upland soil versus wetland sediments in hummocky terrains
